Lens, 8X, Canon Camcorder, Shuttle

Collection Item Summary:

This 8X zoom lens was used with a Canon 8mm video camera on Space Shuttle flights in the 1990s. Astronauts could use several interchangeable lenses for different photography tasks, such as capturing video of Earth through the windows, filming crew activities, and documenting any technical problems inside the vehicle. The lenses and camera body both contained computers that "talked" to each other to ensure proper exposure.

NASA transferred various cameras and lenses to the Museum when they were no longer needed for missions in space, this one in 2005.
