Photograph of an engraving; illustration probably portrays the flight of Jacques Alexandre CTsar Charles and Nicolas-Louis Robert in the first manned hydrogen balloon from the gardens of the Tuileries Palace, Paris, France, on December 1, 1783. This is a composite print; the original image of the balloon has been touched out with paint, and a second image of a balloon (cut from another photograph of an illustration) pasted in place; this version depicts the balloon in flight without its gondola.
