Collection Item Summary:

John J. Montgomery's hot air balloon, used to tow his 1905 tandem glider to launch altitude, stands folded prior to inflation, supported by rope and masts. A group of men and boys stand by the glider to the right of the photograph. Taken prior to the flight made by Daniel Maloney from Santa Clara College, California on April 29,1905. Maloney was killed on July 18, 1905 when the glider sustained structural failure during another flight.
