Collection Item Summary:

Cher Ami, heroic American homing pigeon of World War I, wounded while carrying a message from the "Lost Battalion" of the 77th Infantry Division. Awarded several decorations, including the Croix de Guerre; after death, the pigeon was mounted and displayed in the National Museum (the current Arts and Industries Museum) and is now in storage at the National Museum of American History.
