These white cotton socks were worn by astronaut John Glenn during the historic "Friendship 7" mission in which he became the first American to orbit the earth in February, 1962.

The socks were part of the cotton undergarments worn underneath Mercury spacesuits for astronaut comfort.

Transferred from NASA - Manned Spacecraft Center in 1963.
