This orthographic projection of Mars coordinates line and element numbers, as recorded on the original television photographs. The element numbers are displaced north to south, while the line numbers run east to west. These numbers were used for locating the images by pixels as they were returned by the spacecraft recording the image. Depictions are visible around the perimeter of the image for identification and reference purposes.
