Members of the Wellman Polar Expedition stand on the nacelle of the airship "America" during assembly in the hangar at Camp Wellman on Virgohamna (Virgo Bay), Dansky̜a (Danes Island), in the Svalbard archipelago, before the expedition's attempt to fly to the North Pole on August 15, 1909. One of the airship's innovative swiveling propellers, designed by Melvin Vaniman, can be seen - the man standing on the propeller shaft may be Vaniman. Identical to NASM-9A10693.
