Join Space History Division curator Margaret Weitekamp to hear a short talk about the survival knife carried in the emergency kits aboard the Apollo lunar missions in the late 1960s and early 1970s.  Not only does this artifact tell the story of how NASA had to think through every possibility before the Apollo missions, it also reminds us of how many people and places contributed to these historic missions.  In the case of the Case survival knife, that includes Bradford, Pennsylvania, the curator’s hometown.

The Ask An Expert lecture series at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is presented every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 12:30 PM. A Museum staff member talks to the public about the history, collection, or personalities related to a specific artifact or exhibition in the Museum.
