National Geography Awareness Week, initiated in 1987 by the National Geographic Society's Geography Education Program, is an annual celebration to promote geographic literacy. Geography Awareness Week occurs in every November with a new theme selected each year.
In recognition of National Geography Awareness Week, the National Air and Space Museum will present its annual “Geography From Space” Contest in the Looking at Earth gallery on Nov. 16, 17, and 18 from 10AM to 3PM. In this fun contest, visitors will enjoy learning about world geography by trying to identify geographic features on images from satellites and the International Space Station.
Geography Week Online The online Geography From Space Contest is based on the same content held in the Museum each year. A new online contest is held each year during National Geography Awareness Week. Online participants have the chance to enter a random drawing to win a prize. Contestants must identify geographic locations based on a satellite image and a short clue. After the contest is over, answers are posted online.
Images like this one will be part of the "Geography from Space" contest that will be held in the Looking at Earth gallery during Geography Week (Nov. 14-16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) at the National Air and Space Museum's Mall building.
