    Small Group Activities - Facilitated

    Demonstrations  Recommended Schedule  Description

Earth and Solar System Demonstration (6th Grade)

    August 26, 2019 -November 1, 2019

Hands-on activities that first explore objects in our universe and their size and age in relation to each other and then explore meteorites answering the questions: What are the different types of meteorites? What can meteorites tell us about Earth? (NGSS: MS-ESS1-1, MS-ESS1-2, MS-ESS1-3, MS-ESS1-4, MS-ESS3-1)

    Weather and the Water Cycle
    (6th Grade)

    November 6, 2019 - January 24, 2020

Hands-on activities that demonstrate how our understanding of weathering and erosion on Earth has shaped our understanding of the surface of Mars and its history. (NGSS: MS-ESS2-1, MS-ESS2-2, MS-ESS3-2, MS-ETS1-1, MS-ETS1-2)

    Weathering and Erosion
    (6th Grade)

    January 29, 2020 - April 8, 2020

Hands-on activities that demonstrate how the water cycle drives our weather and how we apply this knowledge to develop weather forecast and how forecast impact aviation. (NGSS: MS-ESS2-1, MS-ESS2-2, MS-ESS3-2, MS-ESS2-4, MS-ESS2-5)

    Rover Engineering Design
    (6th Grade)

    April 9, 2020 - June 19, 2020

Learn how we are using our knowledge of Earth’s Structure and Environment to design exploration vehicles to better understand Mars and its history. (MS-ESS3-1, MS-ESS3-3, MS-ESS3-4, MS-ESS3-5, MS-EST1-3, MS-EST1-4)

The Body in Space (7th Grade)

    August 26, 2019 - June 19, 2020

Learn what knowledge we have gained from our missions to the ISS to understand how the human body changes in space, and what technologies help asronauts stay healthy and safe during long missions.  (MS-LS1-3, MS-LS1-8, MS-LS3-1,MS-LS1-5)

    Forces of Falling (8th Grade)

    August 26, 2019 - June 19, 2020

Learn what knowledge we have gained from our past space missions to understand how objects behave in a reduced or absent atmosphere and in an environment with less gravity than Earth and apply it to our planned missions to Mars. (MS-PS2-1, MS-PS2-2, MS-PS2-4, MS-PS2-5, MS-ETS1-1, MS-ETS1-2)

    Small Group Activities - Self-Guided

    Activity Summary

    Moving Beyond Earth Gallery Guide

An immersive exhibition that places visitors “in orbit” in the shuttle and space-station era to explore recent human spaceflight and future possibilities. (Gallery Guide)

    Exploring the Universe Gallery Guide

This gallery shows how our ideas about the Universe evolved as we developed new astronomical instruments. It presents the Universe as discerned by the naked eye, then shows how the telescope, photography, spectroscopy, and digital technology revolutionized our view. (Gallery Guide)

    Time & Navigation Gallery Guide

This surprising connection between time and place has been crucial for centuries. Among the many challenges facing navigation from then to now, one stands out: keeping accurate time.(Gallery Guide)
