Virtual Experiences

The Museum offers several virtual experiences for school groups who cannot visit the Museum in person. These online experiences have been designed to engage and excite learners, while aligning with their educational needs.

The following virtual experiences are available with a reservation and are designed for groups of 10 or more.

Reserved programs are intended for school groups, homeschool groups, and community-based organizations serving youth that meet the minimum program requirements. If you have questions about if your organization meets the Museum’s program requirements, please contact NASMTours@si.edu.

Virtual Planetarium Shows

Register to reserve a unique experience for your students to engage virtually in the solar system and universe beyond.

Virtual Scavenger Hunts

Scavenger hunts challenge students to demonstrate what they know about the topics by embracing creativity and multiple learning styles. They are flexible enough to be done onsite during a visit to the Museum or remotely.    

Virtual Story Times

Original stories for young learners and their caregivers inspired by our unique collection of air and space objects and historic photos that invite learners to imagine themselves as part of the adventure.

Self-Guided Programming

These activities are designed for learners to engage with the Museum’s stories and artifacts around a theme. These resources can be adapted to fit any schedule. Several expeditions can be used on-site or on demand and include a teacher’s guide.  

Anytime Expeditions

Check out our asynchronous virtual experiences designed for students in grades 3 and up. Each educational experience is standards-aligned and provides a suite of materials to engage students. 

Soar Together

Soar Together at Air and Space is a family-focused program from the National Air and Space Museum. By engaging in these activities and experiences, families can imagine their own futures by sharing in the stories of innovators and explorers from diverse backgrounds who challenged conventions and changed the world. 

On Demand Programs

STEM in 30

STEM in 30 is a monthly broadcast series where students can explore unexpected intersections of air and space with their everyday lives like how weather impacts balloon flight, the conditions needed for a habitable planet, and more. Tune in each month for a new discovery.

On Demand Story Time

Original stories for young learners and their caregivers read by a Museum educator and paired with an activity will excite young learners to think about air and space in new ways. 

On-Site Programs

Plan a Field Trip

The National Air and Space Museum offers field trips at our locations on the National Mall and in Virginia. Field trip organizers can reserve on-site experiences at each museum location. 

Holt Scholars Program

The Holt Scholars Program focuses on providing a field trip experience to the museum for all 6th grade DCPS Earth Science students as part of the Smithsonian’s DC Metro Initiative. Field trips for other grades and subjects are also available on a limited basis.

S.H.E. Can Summer Camp

Women and minorities remain underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) fields. Through a unique camp, we hope to change that by engaging and empowering our campers to seek out and succeed in STEAM fields.
