There will be special free screenings of “Transformers” cartoons in the Imax Theater and a costume parade. Parents and kids can pose for photos with “Star Wars” characters; for teenagers there will be a Teen and Tween Zone featuring simulation games, robotics demonstrations and temporary tattoos.

Attendees are encouraged to come in their favorite flight-themed costume. Admission is free, but parking is $15. “Air & Scare” is made possible by the generous support of Mars Snackfood US LLC.

The National Air and Space Museum is on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., at Sixth Street and Independence Avenue S.W. The museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is located in Chantilly, Va., near Washington Dulles International Airport. Both facilities are open daily from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. (closed Dec. 25).
