Visitors to the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy can enjoy significant savings on repeat parking with the purchase of a new annual pass that will be available beginning March 1.
Individual parking passes offering unlimited use will be sold to the general public for $65 each and to members of the museum’s National Air and Space Society for $50 each.
Daily parking at the Chantilly, Va., facility costs $12 per vehicle, so the annual pass will pay for itself in six visits for the general public and five for museum members. This feature will be particularly attractive to Washington D.C.-area families, and residents who frequently entertain out-of-town guests. The passes may also be purchased as gifts.
All income from parking at the Udvar-Hazy Center goes to fund museum programming and to pay for the center's construction costs. The building of a second phase of the center, including a restoration hangar and archives, will move forward once complete funding is available.
Admission to the Udvar-Hazy Center is free and visitors may be dropped off and picked up at no charge.
The previous annual Udvar-Hazy Center parking pass was available exclusively to museum members.
Applications for the new annual pass may be obtained and submitted at the welcome centers of the museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center and the museum's flagship building on the National Mall. They also are available on the museum's Web site, www.nasm.si.edu, where a direct purchase can be made with a major credit card, or the form can be downloaded for printing and mailing with payment. In addition, passes can be purchased over the telephone and applications obtained by calling (703) 572-4102 or by emailing email@example.com.
Payment for passes must be made with a major credit card or by check. Cash and payment through online systems like PayPal cannot be accepted.
Visitors who apply at the Udvar-Hazy Center for an annual parking pass may deduct $12 from their payment by enclosing a receipt for daily parking from the day the application is submitted.
Annual passes may only be used within the immediate family of the pass holder. The museum reserves the right to see identification at the Udvar-Hazy Center parking gate. There is no limit on the number of people inside a vehicle parking at the center. Parking is limited to two-axle vehicles and vehicles can not be left overnight at the Udvar-Hazy Center.
The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is located in Chantilly, Va., off of Route 28. It is open daily from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. (closed Dec. 25.) Admission to the Udvar-Hazy Center is free, but there is a $12 fee for daily parking. The museum operates a shuttle bus between the center and its flagship building on the Mall in Washington from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a round-trip ticket costing $12. Group discounts are available. There is no public transportation to the center.
