Parents who want to get their kids excited about science are invited to the inaugural Super Science Saturday—a day full of educational science fun at the National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Starting Saturday April 9, Super Science Saturdays will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month for the next three years and will offer a variety of activities focused a different science concept. Through demonstrations and hands-on activities, young visitors will become immersed in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) topics related to aviation and space exploration.
The theme for the first Super Science Saturday April 9 is “How Things Fly” and will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Some of activities will be:
Science Demonstrations
Visitors will be asked to participate in a family-friendly demonstration to explore the forces of flight and the basic science behind how airplanes fly.
Discovery Stations
"Stop, Look and Discover" are the guiding words for hands-on activity stations featuring historical materials, artifacts and models related to specific themes and exhibitions in the museum.
Story Times
For the youngest members in the family, museum educators will read aviation-themed stories and then encourage children to create arts and crafts.

The National Air and Space Museum building on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., is located at Sixth Street and Independence Avenue S.W. The museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is located in Chantilly, Va., near Washington Dulles International Airport. Both facilities are open daily from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. (closed Dec. 25). Admission is free, but there is a $15 fee for parking at the Udvar-Hazy Center.
What could be better than kids, computers and robots! Children of all ages enjoy the hands-on activities at the Women in Aviation and Space Family Day at the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center.
