Monecia Taylor is the National Air and Space Museum’s Associate Director for External Affairs, overseeing the Offices of Advancement, Communications, Special Events, and Visitor Services. She joined the Smithsonian in 2005.
She is the chief advancement officer and oversees all aspects of the Museum’s fundraising campaign. She also serves as a member of the Smithsonian’s senior development team that is leading the effort for its pan-institutional comprehensive campaign to raise $1.5 billion. Under her leadership of the development program, the National Air and Space Museum successfully completed its campaign to fund the construction of the restoration, collections storage, and archives wing of the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.
Taylor is a 20-year veteran of professional development work in education and cultural organizations such as the University of Mary Washington, George Washington’s Fredericksburg Foundation, and St. Margaret’s School where she served in various leadership roles in the advancement field. She is a member of the UMW Foundation Board of Directors. Previously, she served on the boards of the UMW Alumni Association, Brockenbrough House Restoration Committee, College-Community Orchestra and UMW Historic Preservation Council. She is a member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and the National Capital Gift Planning Council. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Mary Washington.
