Rick Flansburg is the associate director for Collections, Archives, and Logistics. He is responsible for the overall planning, development, and management of the Museum's programs and activities related to collections management, archives, revitalization, and facilities. As the Museum Project Executive, he is leading a multi-year effort to revitalize the Museum’s National Mall Building in Washington, DC, including the building envelope and major systems. Rick also facilitated the development of the Museum's strategic plan (2015 - 2025) and annual plans for 2015 and 2016. Flansburg came to the Smithsonian in June 2014 after his retirement from the Department of Defense. He has a Masters of Architecture from Montana State University and is professionally licensed to practice architecture.
