    James S. Colligan was born in Moriah, NY, graduated from Indian Lake Central High and received a B.S. degree from SUNY Cortland. He served in the US Navy VP47 squadron from 1962 to 1966 with two deployments flying shipping surveillance in S.E. Asia and was detached as a lieutenant. He then flew charter flights and taught school in East Greenbush, NY, until joining United Airlines in 1968. Jim married Joan E. Griewank and their son, James J., was born in 1980. Colligan retired from United Airlines in 1999 as an International Captain on the Boeing 767-300. During the summers, Colligan flies a Cessna 180 floatplane from the family Raquette Lake, NY, Adirondack "camp" and resides the remainder of the year in a back-country home in Greenwich, CT.
