First soloing on August 16, 1959 in an Aeronca 7AC, Capt. Weatherby was hired by United Airlines on June 13, 1961. Progressing through the positions of Ticket Agent, Employment Representative and Staff Assistant in Headquarters Personnel, he was accepted into United's Flight Administration as a line Caravelle Second Officer in September of 1967. During his almost 31-year career as a pilot, Captain Weatherby flew the Caravelle, Boeing B720, and DC8 and earned an Airline Transport Rating on the following Boeing aircraft: B737, B757, B767, and B747. Following his retirement in 1998, he earned an ATP in the DA-20 Falcon. He continues to fly his Mooney M20-F for pleasure.
