Summary

Curtiss Flying Service provided charter flights flown by pilots from the Curtiss Flying Schools, both of which were under the larger aegis of the Curtiss Exhibition Service. This collection consists of one stub of a ticket issued to Carl W. Chase for a flight with Curtiss Flying Service.

Biographical / Historical

Curtiss Flying Service provided charter flights flown by pilots from the Curtiss Flying Schools, both of which were under the larger aegis of the Curtiss Exhibition Service. Charles S. "Casey" Jones was a manager of Curtiss Exhibition Service who organized and later managed Curtiss Flying Service which eventually encompassed more than thirty airports around the United States. Carl W. Chase, of Gary, Indiana, was an engineer for United States Steel Corporation who worked in the American Bridge Division.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of one stub of a ticket issued to Carl W. Chase for a flight with Curtiss Flying Service. The ticket, which measures approximately 4 by 3 inches, is dated June 9, 1929 and is numbered 1188. The ticket features a stylized image of an airplane flying among clouds above the Curtiss logo and a facsimile signature of Charles S. "Casey" Jones. The text on the ticket reads, in part, "This certifies that Carl W. Chase has had an airplane ride with 'the oldest flying organization in the world'." On the reverse of the ticket are several original signatures and initials presumed to be crew members and/or other passengers.
