The Federal Aviation Administration possesses documents and records relating to aircraft registered in the United States between 1926-1946. NASM wanted a Master Historical Listing of all aircraft registered in the United States, and so an agreement between the FAA and NASM allowed for a contractor, Mr. Richard Allen, to prepare this Master Listing for NASM from FAA records. Allen ended his affiliation with this project circa 1993, when there was no more money for a contractor. However, Dan Hagedorn, Archives Division, has continued the project from where Allen left off. However, instead of transcribing the information from the FAA records to cards, the information is now being entered into a database.
