Summary

This collection consists of a ticket from Doctor Foulke to George Washington for Foulke's pneumatics lecture and the first balloon exhibit in America. Framed with the ticket is a letter from Washington, regretting that he cannot attend the lecture.

Biographical / Historical

Dr. Foulke was a surgeon, who in his leisure time joined Francis Hopkinson in introducing ballooning to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Foulke invited General George Washington to one of his pneumatics lecture when Washington was in Philadelphia for a Society of the Cincinnati meeting.
