This photo album contains approximately 280 black and white images relating to the 84th Fighter Squadron, Sergeant Harley Bisselberg's fellow service members, and wrecks, repair and maintenance of aircraft.
Harley A. Bisselberg (1918-1986) was born in Indiana and enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1942, where he served as a mechanic. Sergeant Bisselberg's service was marked by innovation, as when he engineered a trap door in the belly fuel tank of a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt to enable the delivery of tool kits to downed pilots for repair of their aircraft. Bisselberg was awarded the Legion of Merit in 1944.
