An International Aviation Meet was held under the auspices of the Aero Club of Illinois and the International Aviation Meet Association at Grant Park, Chicago from August 12-20, 1911. Pilots participating in the meet included Earle L. "Ovie" Ovington; Howard W. Gill; Calbraith Perry Rodgers; Lincoln Beachey; Thomas Octave Murdoch Sopwith; Rene Simon; Oscar Allen Brindley; George W. Beatty; Arthur L. "Al" Welsh; John A. D. McCurdy; Thomas S. Baldwin; Rene Barrier; Paul W. Beck; Walter R. Brookins; Leonard Warden Bonney; Frank T. Coffyn; Andrew Drew; James C. "Bud" Mars; James Vernon Martin; George Mestach; Phillip Orin Parmelee; Hugh Armstrong Robinson; Arthur Burr Stone; James Clifford Turpin; James J. "Jimmie" Ward; Charles Forster Willard; Eugene B. Ely; and William R. Badger and St. Croix Johnstone (both of whom were killed in accidents at the meet). Records were set during the course of the meet by Beachey, Beatty, Sopwith, Parmelee, and Smith.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of the Official Souvenir Program for the International Aviation Meet held at Grant Park, Chicago, from August 12-20, 1911. The program measures 9 x 12 inches, and the cover features an illustration by artist John Tinney McCutcheon which includes an allegorical figure of the god Mercury surrounded by stylized airplanes.
