Hugh "Fritz" Morris was a teacher in Florida during the early 1960s who collected ephemera relating to the US space program during the course of his work, including the three booklets and spiral photo album found in this collection.

Biographical / Historical

Educated at Drake University and the University of Southern Mississippi, Hugh "Fritz" Morris taught middle school in Cocoa Beach, Florida during the early 1960s and collected materials on the US space program that were distributed to schools in Florida to help drive interest in the Mercury and Gemini programs.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of three booklets related to the US space program and a spiral photo album that were collected by Hugh "Fritz" Morris during his time as a teacher in Florida. Booklets include Astronaut John H. Glenn Orbits the Earth for America, dated February 20, 1962; Department of Defense Support of Project Gemini GT-4, undated; and Exploring Space… Project Mercury, undated. The photo album is titled Visit of Astronauts John H. Glenn, Jr., and M. Scott Carpenter to General Dynamics | Astronautics and dated June 28, 1962.
