A hand colored engraving on paper depicting a crowd viewing a balloon in the air. The print comments on the experiments of the Swiss clock-maker. Jakob Degan. Between 1806 and 1817 Degan made repeated flights with his ornithopter dangling beneath a balloon. Some other experimenters, notably George Cayley, read accounts of Degan's exploits and assumed that the man had flown without the balloon.
