The Marie Curie rover was the flight spare for the Sojourner rover launched to Mars in 1996 as part of the Mars Pathfinder mission. During Sojourner's activities on Mars, engineers were able to test commands on Marie Curie in a Mars-like environment at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California.
