Print, Etching on Paper, Hand Colored, L'ASCENSION DE CESSU-BRISSY À LIMOGES EN 1786
Hand colored etching on paper. L'ascension de Testu-Brissy à Limoges en 1786, 1790. Mounted horseman in tubular-shaped balloon over village; red, blue, yellow and green coloring. This scene is a depiction of Pierre Tetu-Brissy who combined showmanship and the pursuit of science when he ascended into the sky, mounted on horseback. Tetu-Brissy and the horse made it through the experiment alive, although the aeronaut explained that the horse had bled from the nose at lower altitudes.
