Type ART-Prints, Original Medium Print, Etching on Paper, Uncolored Physical Description Uncolored etching of an opulently decorated balloon aloft over the French coastline. The balloon is the mixed hot air and hydrogen Roziere in which Pilatre de Rozier and Pierre Romaine died while attempting to cross the Channel from Boulogne-sur-Mer to England, June 15, 1785. The walls of the town are to the left of the image, where a crowd has gathered to watch the departure of the balloon. Ships and boats are on the choppy waters below the balloon.
