These quick disconnect bolts are accessories for the cycle ergometer flown on space shuttle missions for the astronauts' daily exercise. They were used to mount or dismount the ergometer base from its support plate. Because the crews had to assemble and disassemble this equipment as needed within the shuttle cabin, fasteners and procedures were as quick and easy as possible. NASA transferred a complete cycle ergometer kit to the Museum when the shuttle program ended.
