ART-Prints, Original
Print, Etching on Paper, Colored
Hand-colored etching of the citizens of Gonesse attacking the Montgolfier balloon after it landed in their village. A number of the citizens are stabbing the balloon with pitchforks, while another is tying it to the back of a horse to drag it through the streets of the village. Having never seen a balloon before, the people of Gonesse thought the balloon was a monster and attacked it. The title of the print is at the top of the page and printed backwards, indicating that the print was meant to be viewed through a zograscope. Descriptions of the scene are below the image in French and German.
