This is a cushion to support the back of a Gemini astronaut while in his capsule seat. Made of plastic and foam, these cushions were contoured to fit each individual astronaut and were attached to the front of the backboard assembly. This cushion was not flown and was thus used solely for training purposes. Its manfacturer is unknown.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration transferred the cushion to NASM in 1970.
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
