This is a cushion to support the back of a Gemini astronaut while in his capsule seat. Made of fiberglass and foam, these cushions were contoured to fit each individual astronaut and were attached to the front of the backboard assembly. This cushion is not contoured and is marked as "Not for Flight." As a result, it would have been used only for training purposes. The manufacturer is unknown. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration transferred the artifact to NASM in 1970.
