This Canon L2 Hi 8mm format video camera, an upgraded version of the similar Canon L1A, was used on Space Shuttle flights in the latter 1990s. Astronauts used the cameras to film crew activities, capture video of Earth, and document onboard technical problems or anomalies. Like its precursor, the L2 model could be fitted with interchangeable lenses for different photography needs. In 1999 a similar digital version of the camera flew aboard the Shuttle for the first time.

NASA transferred various cameras and lenses to the Museum when they were no longer needed for missions in space, this one in 2005.
