Sherman Fairchild developed the high-quality K-3 camera with its between-the-lens shutter that minimized distortion. The camera set the technical standard for commercial and military mapping and for vertical and oblique photography in the 1920s and '30s. The K-3A had a Veeder automatic instrument data recorder that imprinted information directly onto the film. The popular K-3B could use six different length lenses but lacked the data recorder.
