This is an example of the uniform coat adopted by the Canadian Air Force which was formed on February 18, 1920. Soon after its formation, the service adopted this dark navy blue style uniform. On February 15, 1923, when King George V approved the designation Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), this uniform was soon abandoned in favor of the lighter blue Royal Air Force pattern.
