Michael Mills, photographer for Scaled Composites, assembled the collage using his photographs and mementos from SpaceShipOne’s X-Prize spaceflights, ca. November 2004. It includes photographs of the pilots and their wives, Melvill's zero-G indicator (package of M&Ms), decal of SpaceShipOne, and signed currency with authentication stickers.

The collage hung above Mills’ desk in his office at Scaled Composites until his retirement in 2018, and afterward in his home. This collage was one of his most treasured memories of his career, and he would show it with pride whenever Burt Rutan and Mike Melvill visited.

Mills was a professional photographer employed by Scaled Composites from 2001 to 2018. He captured many special moments during his 17 years, including the SpaceShipOne program. Mills’ work helped document this historic program for internal use and external dissemination.
