Air Force Colonel Eileen Collins wore this shirt on the STS-93 Space Shuttle mission in 1999, making history as the first woman to command a U.S. spaceflight mission. Except during launch, reentry, and spacewalks when they wear pressure suits, astronauts wear ordinary clothing while in space. Each crew's wardrobe typically includes shirts in various colors and styles, often customized with a mission emblem. This polo shirt is embroidered "STS-93" with a symbol for the Chandra X-ray Observatory, a spacecraft delivered into orbit on this mission. NASA gave this shirt to the Museum later that year.
