Documented sample bags were used for organizing rock and soil samples. Cup-shaped bags in this configuration were used on Apollo 17 for the soil sampler mounted on the Lunar Roving Vehicle. The LRV sampler accomodated 12 of these bags at a time; the bags came in sets of 48, or four batches of 12. After a sample was taken, the astronauts would remove the full cup of soil, then seal and stow it to bring back to Earth.

NASA transferred this documented sample bag cup to the Museum.
