The stowage of numerous items of personal and spacecraft equipment is in compartments and lockers. Compartments are part of the crew compartment structure. Lockers are packed externally and installed in the command module just prior to launch. For the compartments, equipment is first placed in "cushions" and then inserted into the compartments during launch preparation.
This cushion is from the R10 compartment of from the Apollo 11 command module flown during its historic lunar mission in July 1969. It was transferred to the Smithsonian in 1971.
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
