Date c. 1794 Type ART-Prints, Original Medium Print, Engraving on Paper, Uncolored Physical Description Uncolored engraving of a diagram of the large Montgolfier balloon, La Fleselle, that ascended at Lyon on January 19, 1784 with seven persons on board, including Joseph Montgolfier and Pilatre de Rozier. Jacques de Flesselles (1721-1789) served as Intendant of Lyon for twenty years (1764-1784). Fascinated by technology, he was involved in tests of an experimental steam boat and sponsored the flight of Le Flesselle. Overall diagram of the balloon in the center, with diagrams of various details on the sides. Detailed descriptions of the diagrams in French also included. "Alyon, Chez Joubert fils, Graveyr et Md. d'Estampes, Gde. rue Merciere." Dimensions Mat: 31.8 × 41.3cm (12 1/2 × 16 1/4 in.)
