Collimator for X-ray detector, Catalogue # 19880017000, flown on Aerobee sounding rockets from the mid 1960's to the early 1970's. Collimators such as this one enhance the directionality of detectors by rejecting all radiation other than that which comes from a narrow solid angle that defines the direction the instrument is pointing. This artifact is part of a collection of high energy detectors from the Naval Research Laboratory (see Catalogue numbers 19880001000-19880017000). It was transferred to NASM in 1987.
