This is an unflown Environmental Control System (ECS). Originally made for the Gemini human spaceflight program, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration transferred it to the Air Force for use in the Gemini B capsules that would be attached to the Manned Orbiting Laboratory. The Nixon administration cancelled the Manned Orbiting Laboratory program in 1969. The ECS provided a safe and comfortable gaseous atmosphere for the astronauts. It furnished oxygen, pressurizaion, temperature control, waste water removal, and toxic gas removal. The ECS also cooled equipment and regulated the temperature of certain equipment. AirResearch made the ECS and McDonnell Douglas donated it to NASM in 1970.
