Physical Description
Hand-painted paper fan with three balloons painted on the front. Gold-colored sequines have been glued around the balloons. The balloons on the right and left of the central image are somewhat fanciful representations of the Montgolfier balloon carrying the first animals aloft form Versailles on September 19, 1783. The central image shows the flight of Charles and Robert from the Tuileries, December 1, 1783. The music and 8 stanzas of the song "Chant du Globe Aërostatique' are printed on the reverse of the fan. The sticks are made of bone. The guard sticks have a floral design on the exterior. In a blue cardboard box. The lid and one of the short ends of the box are missing.
