Folding hand fan with paper leaf and bone or ivory sticks. The sticks are carved with a floral design and have been embellished with metallic paint. The guard sticks have a mother of pearl overlay which is also carved with a floral design and embellished with metallic paint. The paper leaf has a printed design on each side that has been enhanced with hand painting. One side shows a man and two women observing a balloon through a telescope. The reverse shows two children petting a dog. The hand painting on the side with the balloon is much more colorful and elaborate, suggesting that is the front. Made in France by Gard.
