This orbiter name flag flew at the launch pad before Space Shuttle Discovery's final mission, STS-133, in 2011. It also flew at Dulles International Airport in Chantilly, Virginia, for Discovery's arrival and transfer to the Smithsonian Institution. It flew again inside the National Air and Space Museum's McDonnell Space Hangar as Discovery was prepared for permanent display. By NASA custom, each orbiter's flag is displayed wherever the orbiter is located for servicing, launch, and landing.
The launch pad operations manager David M. Sutherland, donated this flag to accompany Discovery to the Museum in 2012.
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
