This is the right hand Sokol spacesuit glove that Soviet cosmonaut Anatoly Artsebarsky wore during his launch landing for his 5 month mission to the Soviet space station Mir for the expedition EO-9 in 1991. Artsebarsky launched and landed on board the Soyuz TM-12 ferry craft to the station, arriving in May and returning to Earth in October. Cosmonauts and astronauts use spacesuits in a partially or fully pressurized configuration during all launch, docking and entry activities because the potential of spacecraft depressurization requires the backup of the emergency Sokol spacesuit.

Artsebarsky retained his spacesuit gloves as the only personalized component of his spacesuit. At some point he sold this glove to an American collector, whose collection was donated to the museum.
