This T-1 glove was first used in 1951. The suit to which it belongs was developed from an emergency suit used on three flights in the US Navy's D-558-II rocket-powered airplane, popularly known as the Douglas Skyrocket.

The T-1 suit was used in fighters and experimental aircraft as it incorporated acceleration protection features. The suit and its gloves were designed to provide dependable emergency protection in high altitudes for short time periods.

The T-1 suit was manufactured by the David Clark Company, which later on was the prime contracter for the NASA Gemini spacesuits. NASA transferred the glove to the Museum in 1973.
