This helmet was made for John Glenn's training sessions prior to his historic Friendship 7 flight in February 1962.

As with the heImet constructed for his Mercury mission, this helmet was constructed of a resinous, impregnated fiber glass hard shell with an individually molded, crushable impact liner. It contained a visor sealing system, ventilation exhaust outlet, and a communications system.
