This is a filter for an automobile air bag inflator. The Atlantic Research Corporation (ARC), a long-established maker of small solid propellant rocket motors for defense and civilian space applications, manufactured the filter as a spinoff of its core propulsion technology. Combustible material derived from an ARC solid propellant provided gas by way of the filter to inflate the air bag.

Transferred to NASM from the Atlantic Research Corporation.
