This insignia was part of a collection of original art work commissioned for the Smithsonian Institution through the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression. The 20th Aero Squadron served as a daylight bombing unit during World War I. Following the war it returned to the United States and redesignated at the 20th Squadron.
